Toronto’s the city that’s got it all! Whether you’re flying solo or with your crew, this place has something for everyone. Hungry? Get ready for some global eats – we’re talking Chinese, American, fine dining, street eats… you name it, Toronto’s got it covered. And those skyline views from the city’s skyscraper? It’s postcard-perfect. Plus, with museums, markets and exhibitions galore, Art lovers and culture aficionados, you’re in for a treat! Get ready for an itinerary packed tighter than your carry-on. Toronto’s serving up an unforgettable slice of city life for your trip to the 6ix.

1. Discover Art and Culture at AGO Museum

Venture into the heart of Toronto’s cultural scene with the AGO (Art Gallery of Ontario) as your first stop. Housing an extensive collection spanning Caribbean, African, and European art across centuries and continents, this five-floor museum has something new on every turn. Wednesday nights are a great time to visit as the AGO opens its doors for free entry from 6 to 9 pm. Secure your spot by booking free tickets released every Monday at 10 am. During my visit, the “Feels Like Home” exhibition at the AGO was unforgettable. Curated by the Sunday School Agency, it felt like flipping through pages from my own story. It captured what it means to belong and celebrate the Black experience and moments that just felt familiar.

2. eat your heart out at Kensington Market’s Pedestrian Sundays

During Toronto’s warmer months from May to October, Kensington Market springs to life for Pedestrian Sundays. This market hosts a vibrant collection of great eats from around the world, including West African Suya, American waffles, and doughnuts filled to the brim, along with patties and katsu curry. And when your taste buds have had their fill, you can mosey around and be entertained with live music, magicians, and stalls bustling with everything from handmade trinkets to organic creams. If you’re from London, most people describe it as similar to Brixton Market, and I can definitely see what they mean. Spanning across at least five roads, you could easily spend and enjoy a whole day here.

3. sip cocktails at the Poetry Jazz Cafe

Step into the Poetry Jazz Cafe in West Queen West for an evening back in time. This intimate venue sets the tone for an evening that’s not just memorable but soul-stirring. Pick any night of the week very from 9 pm as this place usually has a special guest artist usually performing jazz classics. It’s a great way to spend the evening with just a £10 cover charge going to the performer or band. Established in 2010 as a live music and poetry sanctuary, this intimate venue carries a legacy of nurturing the next generation of jazz, blues, soul, rock, and poetry artists in Toronto. Over 11 years, it’s been the backdrop for over 700 groups, earning its reputation as the prime spot to witness the evolution of musical genres. And, with a great menu of classic cocktails, you’ll surely find something to your taste.

4. see the view from the 6ix

You can’t talk about Toronto without mentioning the CN Tower. The CN Tower in Toronto stands at an impressive 553 meters, once reigning as the world’s tallest freestanding structure and tower before passing the torch to the Burj Khalifa. Recognised by Guinness World Records, it held the title from 1975 to 2007 and then as the tallest tower until 2010. Offering breathtaking panoramic views from its observation decks, this Canadian icon provides an unmatched perspective of Toronto’s skyline and surroundings, captivating both tourists and locals alike. With a rotating restaurant up top offering gourmet dining and coffee shops on the observation decks, you can fill up after you explore — this is a must-visit.

#VISITBUDAPEST: CHAN GOES RECOMMENDATIONS

Budapest is a city that ticks multiple boxes. If you’re looking for a quick city break with great food, incredible cityscapes, and rich history then look no further. Travel lovers searching for art and culture will find their itineraries full, with a selection of great things to pack into your short trip.

TOP THREE MUST VISITS:

THERMAL BATHS: RUDAS

Thermal baths are a must-visit when in Budapest. The most common one to visit is Széchenyi baths, however I recommend the almost secret Rudas Baths. Unlike the famous Széchenyi, Rudas offers a beautiful rooftop heated pool with a 360 view of the bustling city and a variation of days for a selection of mixed or single-gender baths.

RUIN BAR: Szimpla Kert

Take a peek into Budapest’s unforgettably unique nightlife. Located on Kazinczy Street, also known as the Street of Culture, Kazinczy street offers a wide variety of touristic gems alongside the first and most famous ruin bar, Szimpla Kert. Here you will find an atmosphere resembling a movie scene during the day and a beautiful international melting pot at night.

FISHERMAN’S BASTION:

The Halászbástya or Fisherman’s Bastion is one of the most well-known monuments in Hungary and is located near the Buda Castle, in the 1st district. It is one of the most important tourist attractions due to the unique panorama of Budapest from the Neo-Romanesque lookout terraces. Often used as the backdrop of film sets, you’ll often find live music, church tours and more here.

TOP THREE EATS:

BREAKFAST: CIRKUSZ

If there’s one spot in Budapest you go to for Breakfast, it must be Cirkusz! Recently landing a spot in the World’s TOP 25 Brunches it’s a must-visit for sure. Serving all Day Breakfast, freshly roasted coffee, loaded pancakes and lots more.

BRUNCH: COOKIE BEACON

Located between the Hungarian Parliament Building and St. Stephen’s Basilica, Cookie Beacon is the prime location for brunch or a sweet post-dinner treat. Renowned for its to-die-for filled and freshly baked cookies and plentiful brunch options (I’d recommend the Avocado bacon cheesy waffle!), it’s not uncommon to find lines forming at any hour of the day, but I assure you, it’s worth the wait!

DINNER: MAZEL TOV

Mazel Tov is an “open-hearted” cultural dining space in the middle of the historic Jewish quarter. This food was certainly showstopping and perhaps my favorite dinner of the trip. With mouthwatering flavours complimenting each other from starter to main and generous portion sizes, you will not leave hungry or unsatisfied.

If you’re wondering if Budapest is worth the visit, the answer is 1000% yes. As one of the most underrated capital cities in Europe, every corner of Budapest oozes with history, charm, and beauty. Will you be visiting in 2023?
